5 Patriotic Dessert Ideas for this 4th of July

The 4th of July, the birthday of our great nation, always stirs our national pride. It’s also a prime day to relax and have friends and family over to enjoy the summer holiday! Instead of serving up your to-go-to desserts, try these all American inspired recipes instead.

Ice Pops

Ice pops are a festive dessert that can be transformed into the prefect summer treat. Combine yogurt, cream, and 2 tablespoons each sugar and lime juice. Remove molds from freezer and top with yogurt mixture; insert ice-pop sticks. Freeze until firm, about 30 minutes. In clean blender, puree blueberries, remaining 2 tablespoons sugar, and remaining 1 1/2 tablespoons lime juice.

Cake Pops

Cake pops are a fun dessert to make because they can be decorated any way that you want. They are also easy to eat outdoors if you are having a barbecue. Start by following any cake pop recipe you want. To decorate, dunk each cake pop in a melted white chocolate and immediately dip them into a dish filled with red and blue candy sprinkles. Let cool on strips of wax paper.

Dipped Strawberries

Strawberries are still in season on the 4th of July holiday for a perfect dessert! Submerge the strawberries in white chocolate and then dip the tip in blue candy sprinkles. You can also dip the strawberries in blue candy melt, followed by white candy sprinkles to show your American pride! Let them cool on sheets of waxed or parchment paper.

Flag Cake

There’s always cake on a birthday party. Since the 4th of July is the official birthday of the United States, a birthday cake is a perfect choice! Slice 1 cup of strawberries; halve remaining strawberries. Cover bottom of 13×9-inch dish with cake slices; top with sliced strawberries and 1 cup blueberries. Spread whip cream over berries. Arrange strawberry halves and remaining blueberries on whip cream to resemble a US flag.

If you’re looking for something healthy, parfaits are just the thing! Add boiling water to gelatin mix in large bowl; stir 2 min. until completely dissolved. Stir in cold water. Pour into 9 parfait or dessert glasses. Refrigerate 4 hours or until firm. Spoon 2 cups whip cream over desserts; top with berries and remaining whip cream.
